MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday said it has submitted to the Commission on Human Rights an updated report on alleged international humanitarian law violations by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
A total of 166 new violations have been recorded: 16 cases of recruitment and use of child combatants, 10 cases of destruction of civilian-owned properties, 113 cases of anti-personnel mine use, 20 cases of willful killings and 7 other alleged violations of international humanitarian law (IHL), the AFP said in a statement.
The AFP Center for Law of Armed Conflict (AFPCLOAC) submitted the list to CHR last Oct. 14.
The AFP said the list was on top of the 1,506 IHL violations previously monitored and reported from 2010 to 2020, which brings the total to 1,672 cases.
Brig. Gen. Joel Alejandro Nacnac, director of AFPCLOAC, said he expects the numbers to rise as the military continue to monitor alleged violations by the CPP, the political wing of New People’s Army which is waging an armed rebellion in the countryside for more than 50 years now.
