DOH reports only 4,496 new COVID-19 cases due to fewer tests

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported only 4,496 additional COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, a low figure due to lower testing laboratory output last Sunday.

According to DOH, the latest addition brought the country’s total active cases of the disease to 63,637, which make up 2.3 percent of the total 2,731,735 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Of the active cases, 84.2 percent are mild or asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, the DOH also logged 9,609 more recoveries and 211 more deaths. Overall, there were 2,627,126 patients who have recovered and 40,972 who have died.

Some 12.4 percent of 35,766 individuals who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

Seven testing laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System, according to the health agency. These labs contributed an average of 2.8 percent of samples tested and 2 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days.

The DOH removed from the total case count 47 duplicate entries, including 31 recoveries, and reclassified 145 recoveries as deaths after final validation.
