BACOLOD CITY––A Negros Occidental policeman is calling for an investigation of what he called negligence on the part of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and a Makati City hotel after the death of his sister while in quarantine.
Patrolman Nico Malibong, of the Negros Occidental police office, said Sunday that his sister was found dead in a Makati hotel room where she stayed for quarantine after arriving on Oct. 8 from Lebanon.
His sister, Sheila Mae Malibong Hallares, 40, of Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, was found dead in her room on Oct. 13.
“There was blood on her bed and the bathroom,” Malibong said.
They were informed that the victim died from a hemorrhagic stroke and had been dead since Oct. 11.
“The hotel staff should have been concerned when she did not eat her meals and checked on her. There was also no medical personnel at the facility,” Malibog said.
He said his sister had food allergies. Malibog said his sister asked the hospital staff to buy her medicine but was told they could not do it.
Malibong said his sister had worked in Lebanon for about seven years and has two children aged 9 and 18.
