MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Sunday it will release the final list of candidates for the 2022 elections by December.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the final list will be released after the polling body removes the names of all nuisance candidates.

“Ine-expect natin ang final list mga around December. ‘Yun ang final na. Ang pagsasala magagaganap ngayon hanggang that point, October, November,” Jimenez told DZBB.

According to Jimenez, 97 individuals have filed their COCs for presidency while 28 have filed candidacies for vice presidency.

“Sa pagkapresidente lang, 97, so ang dami mo pang sasalain kaagad dyan. Sa VP, 28, so medyo talagang maraming trabaho. Kita mo naman, unang tingin mo lang, alam mo nang makakatanggal ka ng 95 percent ng mga nagfile so siguro ang matitira natin, mga hindi siguro lalagpas ng sampu,” he said.

(Ninety-seven have filed for presidency, so you will have to remove many names. Meanwhile, 28 have filed for vice presidency, so there will really be a lot of work. Based on the initial look, you will see that around 95 percent of the candidates will be removed, so maybe we can only expect less than 10 candidates.)

The filing of COCs were conducted last October 1 to 8. Substitution of candidates can be filed until November 15.
