MANILA, Philippines — There were 156 COVID-19 deaths in the country recorded on Saturday, bringing the total tally to 40,580, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
The total number of deaths accounts for 1.5 percent of all cases.
The country also reported 7,772 COVID-19 new cases on Saturday to bring the caseload to 2,713,509.
Of the total cases, 85,048 or 3.1 percent are “active cases,” but most of them have mild or no symptoms at 88 percent.
The total number of recoveries is now at 2,587,881 or 95.4 percent of all cases after 1,634 survivors were reported.
DOH noted that 55 duplicates were removed from the total case count including 41 are recoveries.
“Moreover, 81 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH added.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 240.2 million including 4.89 million deaths as of posting, according to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 case tracker.
