TACLOBAN CITY – At least 15 alleged members of a communist group have surrendered to the Army on Thursday.
Brigadier Gen. Zosimo Oliveros, the commanding officer of the 802nd Infantry Brigade, said they expect more rebel members and their sympathizers to surrender.
“We hope to have more rebels to voluntarily turn themselves in the coming weeks since those who yielded have openly expressed their commitment to help convince their former comrades to return to the folds of the law as well,” he said in a statement.
Lozada said those who decided to surrender are assured of government support to live a normal life again.
“We will continue to extend our sincere efforts to help those remaining members and supporters of the CTG on the island of Leyte who wish to return to our society and be a part of the whole of nation approach in ending the local communist armed conflict,” he said.
