COVID-19 death count rises to 40,424 with 203 more fatalities

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health registered 203 additional deaths due to coronavirus disease, bringing the total death count to 40,424 as of Friday.

Based on the latest data from the health department, the case fatality rate of COVID-19 in the country currently stands at 1.49 percent out of all the 2.7 million confirmed cases of the disease.

The DOH reported 119 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, 36 on Monday, 263 on Tuesday, 173 on Wednesday, and 154 deaths on Thursday.

The country still has 78,999 active cases of COVID, of which 3.9 percent are severe and 1.7 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death.

Meanwhile, 80.6 percent are mild, 6.4 percent are asymptomatic, and 7.38 percent are moderate cases.

On healthcare utilization, 66 percent of intensive care unit beds, 49 percent of isolation beds and ward beds, and 47 percent of ventilators are currently being utilized, the DOH said.
