4 illegal loggers nabbed in Bulacan

CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan–Four illegal loggers were arrested after they yielded P352,000 worth of illegal lumber during an operation in Doña Remedios Trinidad (DRT) town, authorities said Thursday, Oct. 14.

Col. Manuel Lukban Jr., acting Bulacan police director, identified the suspects as Christian Lungalong, July Tamayo, Aldrin Jay Berin, and Rodel Dayson, all residents of Barangay Pias, General Tinio town in Nueva Ecija province.

Seized from them were 7,038 board feet of illegally cut red and white lauan, and tanguile lumber with an estimated value of P351, 900.

Local police and members of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Baliwag town carried out the operation Wednesday after receiving reports that illegal logging is rampant in Nueva Ecija and in the mountains of DRT.
