Magnitude 4.2 quake hits Camarines Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Camarines Sur on Thursday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Based on the bulletin of Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake that struck 10:08 p.m. was located one kilometer northwest of Canaman, Camarines Sur. It was of tectonic origin, which means it was triggered by the movement of the earth’s crust, and had a depth of seven kilometers, the bulletin added.

Phivolcs said the tremor was also felt in Camarines Sur towns Pili (Intensity VI) and Sipocol (Intensity V), as well as in Iriga City (Intensity III); in Legazpi City, Albay (Intensity II); and Mercedes, Camarines Norte (Intensity I).

While no aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs warned of possible damage due to the quake.
