MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 7,181 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the country’s active cases of the disease to 82,411.
The low number of new cases is still due to low laboratory output last Monday, according to the health agency.
According to DOH, the active cases make up 3.1 percent of the total 2,690,455 confirmed COVID-19 cases that were detected since the start of the pandemic. Of the active cases, 87.4 percent are mild and asymptomatic.
There were also 6,889 additional recoveries, raising the number of patients who have recovered to 2,567,975. Meanwhile, another 173 patients have died, taking the death toll to 40,069 or 1.49 percent of the tally.
Some 14.2 percent of 40,323 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Monday.
According to DOH, 67 percent of ICU beds, 52 percent of isolation and ward beds, and 49 percent of ventilators are currently being used.
The DOH removed 98 duplicates, including 61 recoveries, from the total case count, and reclassified 101 recoveries as deaths after final validation.
Only two testing laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. The said laboratories contributed an average of 0.2 percent of samples tested and 0.2 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days.
