BACOLOD CITY––The mother of La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor Mangilimutan succumbed Monday, Oct. 11, to COVID-19.
Noime Nicor, 71, died about 8:30 a.m. at the South Bacolod General Hospital.
Mangilimutan said her mother, a diabetic, refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The mayor said her mother lost her appetite on Oct. 4 and was isolated in their house, where she had oxygen on standby.
“She underwent a rapid antigen test Saturday morning and tested positive. She took an RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test that confirmed she had COVID-19. She was immediately hospitalized,” Mangilimutan said.
Mangilimutan urged people to be vaccinated to protect themselves from severe COVID-19 that could lead to death.
“COVID is real. Get vaccinated because no amount of money can save you, if you are hit by the virus,” she said.
