MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 12,159 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, and a much higher number of recoveries at 27,727, bringing down the active cases to 90,927.
These numbers bring the total cases to 2,666,652 and total recoveries to 2,536,011.
Meanwhile, the new cases account for 15.9 percent of only 53,880 individuals tested. The testing output is slightly lower compared to the past few days’ which consistently exceeded 55,000.
The death toll, on the other hand, increased to 39,624 after the DOH reported 119 additional deaths.
Of the total patients currently afflicted with the serious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, 88.4 percent are suffering mild cases, 16.2 percent are asymptomatic, 6.70 percent moderate, 3.4 percent severe, and 1.4 percent critical.
However, two laboratories were not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System in the total tests conducted on October 8, the DOH said. These labs contribute, on average, 0.1 percent of samples tested and 0.1 percent of positive individuals.
