Bam Aquino seeks ‘people’s campaign’ for Robredo

MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator Bam Aquino, campaign manager of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo, said that he is striving for a people’s campaign.

“Sisikapin po natin na totoong people’s campaign ang gagawin natin. Galing ang enerhiya hindi lang sa kandidato, kundi sa taumbayan mismo. Buong puso po akong nagtitiwala sa pinagsanib nating lakas. Kaya natin ito!” Aquino posted on Twitter, noting that there are only 211 days before the 2022 elections on May 9.

(We are striving to do a real people’s campaign. The energy not only comes from the candidate, but also from the public itself. I wholeheartedly trust our integrated strength. We can do this!)

Calling Robredo’s supporters ‘kakampink,’ — derived from the pink ribbon that she used on her presidential bid announcement — Aquino shared steps to back the vice president.

Aquino said that ‘kakampinks’ could organize movements, encourage and spread the words online and in person, correct fake news, be inclusive, and start convincing at one’s own household.

Aquino expressed gratitude for the strength, courage, and love of Robredo’s supporters.

“Nayanig ng inyong walang takot at buong pusong pagsuporta kay VP (vice president) Leni ang nakakadismayang sitwasyon ng ating pulitika,” he said.

(Your fearlessness and support for VP shook our disappointing political situation.)

The campaign manager likewise noted the importance of the “pink-splosion” last Thursday during Robredo’s filing of certificate of candidacy.

“…Nakita po natin na kapag tayo’y titindig, meron ding titindig sa tabi natin. Na kung tayo ay buong tapang na maghahangad ng pagbabago, meron ding ibang sasama sa atin. Bagkus, ‘di hamak marami pa sa ating mga kababayan ang kailangan nating maabot. Malinaw na may malawak na pwersa na pwedeng pagsimulan,” Aquino explained.

(We saw that when we stand, others will stand with us. If we courageously aim to change, someone will be with us. Still, we need to reach many of our fellow Filipinos. It is clear that we have a large force where we could start from.)

The former senator noted that more efforts have to be done for Robredo to win in the elections.

“Mahaba pa po ang tatahakin natin sa ating laban. At naniniwala po ako sa ating mga kakayahan. Sapat na ba ang mga numero natin? Malayo pa po ang kailangan nating marating,” Aquino said.

(Our battle will be long but I believe in our abilities. Are our numbers enough? Where we’re headed is still far.)

“Ngunit ayon sa kasaysayan na ating bayan, anuman ang laki ng inyong grupo, basta’t may matibay na paniniwala, malalim na pananampalataya, at kahandaang humakbang at lumaban, kakayanin ang anumang hamon o balakid na kailangang lampasan,” he went on.

(However, based on our country’s history, no matter how big your group is, as long as there is a strong belief, deep faith, and readiness to take a step and fight, we can pass through any challenge or hurdle.)
