MANILA, Philippines — The Mandaluyong City police will press charges against actor Jake Cuenca who sped off after figuring in a road accident that also involved a police patrol vehicle,  Eastern Police District Director Brigadier General Matthew Bacay said Sunday morning.

“The Mandaluyong police will file reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property against  actor Jake Cuenca mamaya (later) and accordingly, he is undergoing medical (examination) ngayon (now),” Bacay said in an interview on DZBB.

Bacay narrated that Cuenca’s vehicle hit a police patrol vehicle in Mandaluyong City at around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The actor, however, drove off instead of stopping to check the damage.

“Hinabol ng mga pulis natin hanggang nakarating sa area na ng Pasig dito sa Shaw. When confronted ayun nga ang driver ng sasakyan was ‘yung actor si Jake Cuenca,” he recalled.

(Police officers chased the vehicle up to Pasig City area, where it was confirmed that the driver was actor Jake Cuenca.)

“‘Yung mga personnel natin ay hinabol lang siya but in the course of the chase nila, ‘yung mga personnel natin had to disable ‘yung sasakyan, pinutukan ‘yung gulong,” he added.

(Our personnel needed to disable the vehicle during the chase and fired at one of the tires.)

A stray bullet, however, hit a driver of ride-hailing service firm Grab.

“Merong ‘yung stray bullet, may tinamaan tayong isang Grab driver (A stray bullet hit a Grab driver),” Bacay said.

The driver, Bacay added, was brought to a nearby hospital and was last listed in stable condition.

“’Yung upon inspection ng sasakyan ni Jake Cuenca wala naman. Nothing was found na illegal substances or any materials sa sasakyan niya during the inspection ng mga pulis natin,” said Bacay.

(Upon inspection of Jake Cuenca’s vehicle, no illegal substances or any materials were found.)
