TACLOBAN CITY — Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso will no longer seek reelection after he withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, Oct. 9.
Veloso, who represents Leyte’s third congressional district, did not cite any reason why he decided to withdraw his COC.
His daughter, Anna Veloso Tuazon, filed her own COC for congresswoman hours before the Commission on Elections closed on Friday.
Tuazon, who is a lawyer by profession, is an incumbent member of the provincial board.
In his post, Rep. Veloso appealed to his supporters to also help her daughter.
“May you extend Anna the same support and love you have shown me as she continues to serve our community,” he said.
Tuazon said that after “considerable amount of introspection,” she decided to fill in the post of her father.
“I have accepted the challenge to serve as the representative of the third district of Leyte,” she said.
“Thank you for your messages and words of encouragement. I am humbled by your support…”she added.
