COVID-19 deaths reach 39,232 with 191 more fatalities

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 took the lives of 191 new patients, raising the country’s death toll due to coronavirus to 39,232 as of Friday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The deaths compose 1.48 percent of the 2.6 million confirmed cases of the disease in the country.

Aside from the 191 deaths, the DOH also reported in a separate bulletin 104 fatalities as part of backlog data from October 5 and 6.

The delay in reporting some deaths was due to technical issues with COVIDKaya system, the agency’s central repository of all data related to the pandemic response. The DOH only continued reporting additional deaths due to COVID on Thursday.

“Rest assured that the DOH is in continuous coordination with the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) to address technical issues with COVIDKaya,” the department said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 118,203 cases remain active as of Friday, according to DOH. Of this number, 77.7 percent are mild, 13.4 percent are asymptomatic, 5.15 percent are moderate cases, 2.7 percent are severe, and 1.1 percent are critical.
