MANILA, Philippines — Former senator and Department of Communications and Information Technology (DICT) Secretary Gringo Honasan II on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in the 2022 elections.
Honasan filed his COC at the Harbor Garden Tent of the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City to formalize his bid.
He played a key role in the 1986 People Power Revolution which ended the authoritarian rule of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Honasan entered politics in 1995 when he ran for senator and won. He served as senator from 1995 to 2004.
He was elected to Senate again in 2007 and was reelected in 2013.
In the 2016 polls, Honasan ran for vice president with then-presidential aspirant Jejomar Binay as his running mate. Both of them lost.
