MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Tarlac City registered on Thursday, Oct. 7, at least 60 deaths from COVID-19, its highest number of fatalities in a single day since the pandemic broke out last year.
The number of COVID-related deaths is also the highest single-day tally in Tarlac province.
According to the Tarlac provincial COVID-19 task force, all 60 new fatalities were residents of the capital city.
It said San Rafael village had the most number of fatalities at 10, followed by San Roque and San Vicente, with five each, and San Miguel and Tibag with two each.
The remaining fatalities were from 28 other villages of Tarlac City, which has 78 villages.
The oldest among those who died from COVID-19 was a 92-year-old woman from San Rafael. The youngest was a 32-year-old man from Poblacion.
Data showed that 35 of the new fatalities were older residents.
The provincial government logged 107 new cases and 97 recoveries on Thursday.
On Wednesday, a 5-day-old boy was among the 41 patients who succumbed to COVID-19 in Tarlac.
The provincial government said the newborn was a resident of San Gavino in Victoria town.
It said 24 of the fatalities were residents aged between 62 and 94 years old.
The province registered 16,749 cases, of which 14,550 have recovered while 635 have died since last year.
Some 224,968 residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 288,891 individuals have received the first dose of the vaccines in Tarlac.
The province intends to inoculate 1,052,419 eligible residents out of its total population of 1,503,456 based on the 2020 census. INQ
