MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa is now running for president under PDP-Laban faction of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, in a surprising turn of events that shocked the crowd at the Harbor Garden tent in Pasay City Friday, the last day of filing the certificates of candidacy (COC).

Aside from buzzer-beater Dela Rosa, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, filed his COC for vice presidency. Pangilinan was accompanied by his running mate, Vice President, and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo, when he filed his COC.

Senatorial candidates from the Cusi-wing of PDP-Laban have also filed their papers, with President Rodrigo Duterte attending the filing event.

FEATURED STORIES

Opposition candidates Senator Leila de Lima filed her COC for senator through a representative. Also filing his candidacy for senator was former senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

All of the expected presidential aspirants have already filed their COCs by now.

However, an unfamiliar aspirant was the first to file his COC for president on Friday.

Independent presidential candidate Ferdinand Jose Pijao filed his candidacy at around 8:30 a.m, the first filer for the highest elective position.

First to file for senator on Friday was a certain Silvestre Bello Jr., who is running under the PDP-Laban party. He is not to be confused with Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, who is also reportedly eyeing to run for senator under PDP-Laban.

The Anak ng Maharlikang Pilipino meanwhile was the first partylist to file at around 8:07 a.m. on Friday.
