MANILA, Philippines—The Makati City prosecutor’s office has recommended the filing of charges against the motorist who allegedly figured in a hit-and-run incident that killed a former barangay (village) chairman from Lemery, Batangas, on Ayala Avenue recently.

Assistant City Prosecutor Hannah Arriola cited an eyewitness account in charging Rommel Barbers, 36, with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide over the death of Alexander Luistro.

The incident was witnessed by Santiago Gacos, a security guard who was then boarding a jeepney but had the presence of mind to take down the plate number of Barbers’ ’92 Toyota Corolla (TAZ-379) after it hit Luistro early morning of February 8.

Arriola recommended a P40,000 bail for Barbers, a resident of Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati.—Miko Morelos
