MANILA, Philippines — Former Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro on Thursday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator through a proxy, after testing positive for COVID-19.
“My friends, heeding your valuable advice I filed my COC for senator under the PRP [People’s Reform Party] of the revered Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago,” Teodoro said in an announcement on his Facebook page.
Teodoro said that he is currently in isolation after testing positive for the virus.
“I had to file by proxy because I am isolating due to a positive RT-PCR test, I am in good spirits. I thank Hon. Narciso Santiago Jr. for giving me the privilege of running under the banner of the PRP. I thank Atty. Dianne who proxied for me,” he added.
Teodoro first offered to run in tandem with Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio. He even went to Davao City to discuss the possible tandem between the two for the 2022 polls.
Duterte-Carpio, however, recently announced that she would rather finish her term as mayor before moving on to another position. She also recently filed her COC for reelection for the said city.
Teodoro last vied for a political position in 2010, when he ran for presidency but lost to the late former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
