Southern Leyte town mayor files COC for reelection

TACLOBAN CITY—The mayor of Maasin in Southern Leyte filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection in the 2022 polls Wednesday.

Joining Mayor Naccional Mercado were incumbent Vice Mayor Maloney Samaco and seven of the 10 reelectionist councilors.

All are running under the administration’s PDP-Laban.

“On my last term, with your full support, let’s continue to aspire for more progress for our beloved city,” Mercado said.

In Samar, a representative of Emil Zosa, who is facing murder charges in court, filed his COC for mayor of Santa Margarita town, a post currently held by his wife, Gemma.

Zosa, a fugitive, was accused of killing Enrique Manas, Sr. in Barangay Bahay, Santa Margarita on July 23, 2017.

In the 2019 elections, Zosa ran but lost to the late Samar Gov. Milagrosa Tan, who was succeeded by her son, Michael Reynolds.
