MANILA, Philippines — House Deputy Speaker and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto announced on Thursday she will no longer seek any elective post in the 2022 elections following “careful consideration of the present situation,” including campaign limitations amid the pandemic.

“After careful consideration of the present situation, especially the limitation in conducting a campaign during a pandemic, I have decided not to seek any elective post in the May 2022 elections,” she said in a statement.

Despite this decision, Santos-Recto said she will still be involved in extending service to the public in her own capacity.

“Nandito pa rin ako para maglingkod sa inyo [I am still here to serve you],” she said.

“I’ve been serving the public for more than 23 years and will continue to serve, in the best way I can, even in my private capacity,” she added.

She then thanked those who have supported her and trusted her through the years.

Santos-Recto is currently representing the 6th District of Batangas in the lower chamber of Congress. She was earlier said to be considering a Senate bid in 2022.
