2 suspected NPA rebels nabbed in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY––Police arrested Wednesday two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and seized an unlicensed firearm and explosives in Sariaya, Quezon.

Combined police and Army soldiers armed with an arrest warrant swooped down at 2 a.m. on the safe house of the suspected rebels––Erlindo Custodio, 53, and Wilfrido Caparaño, 60––in Barangay Manggalang 1 of the town, Colonel Joel Villanueva, Quezon provincial police chief, said in a report.

The report said the police found Baez in possession of one caliber .45 pistol, two magazines, 11 bullets, and one hand grenade.

The raiders also reportedly found some unspecified “subversive documents.”

Judge Jose Ricuerdo Policarpio Flores of the Regional Trial Court in Tanauan City issued the warrant of arrest for Custodio for possession of unlicensed firearms and explosives.

Both suspects are residents of Batangas province, the report added.
