MANILA, Philippines — Manila City Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna on Wednesday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor in the upcoming 2022 elections.

Lacuna filed her COC together with her running mate Manila Third District Rep. Yul Servo-Nieto who will run for vice mayor, at 9:34 a.m. Both of them are running under local party Asenso Manileño.

“Gumawa po tayo ng kasaysayan sa Lungsod ng Maynila,” Lacuna said in a speech during a brief event before her COC filing.

(Let’s make history in the city of Manila.)

“Bigyan natin ang kapitolyo ng ating bansa ng isang pinuno na may puso ng isang ina, pagmamalasakit ng isang doktora. Handang handa nang yakapin ang responsibilidad at harapin ang hamon ng pagiging kauna-unahang babaeng Alkalde ng Lungsod ng Maynila,” Lacuna added.

(Let’s give our capital a leader with the heart of a mother, and the compassion of a doctor, who is ready to embrace the responsibilities and face the challenges of being the first mayor of Manila City.)

Lacuna served as city councilor from 2004 to 2013.

In 2016, she ran and won as vice mayor with former Mayor Joseph Estrada as a running mate.

She won her reelection bid in 2019 when she ran with Mayor Isko Moreno, who is now gunning for the presidency in next year’s elections.

Aside from being a politician, Lacuna is also a medical doctor by profession.

She was a resident physician for the Dermatology Department of the Ospital ng Maynila from 1992 to 1995, then as a public health center physician under the Manila Health Department from 1995 to 2004.

Meanwhile, Asenso Manileño also revealed its full six congressional and 36 district council seats.

Asenso Manileño’s congressional bid will be led by Ernix Dionisio of Manila’s 1st District; Rolan Valeriano, 2nd District; Joel Chua, 3rd District; Edward Maceda, 4th District; Irwin Tieng, 5th District; and Bienvenido “Benny” Abante for 6th District.
