Labor group vows to support Isko-Ong in 2022 polls
MANILA, Philippines — A labor group has vowed support for the tandem of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Dr. Willie Ong presidential and vice presidential race in the 2022 polls.
Philippine Trade and General Workers Organization (PTGWO) on Monday said it believes Domagoso is the by far the only candidate capable of regenerating employment after the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the highest rate of unemployment in the country in recent history.
The group cited Manila City’s “exceptional” pandemic response.
“Its rate of vaccination is one of the highest among LGUs. It was able to build a COVID-19 hospital in record time. Families timely received their ayuda. And, all of these while Yorme Isko delivered on his promise of mass housing, among other big ticket projects,” PTGWO National Secretary Hernan Nicdao said in a statement.
Our economy may return to a semblance of normalcy the soonest,” he added.
Domagoso filed his certificate of candidacy for president on Monday.
He will run under Aksyon Demokratiko party, where he is party president, with Ong as his running-mate.
PTGWO said it would mobilize its members to campaign for the Isko-Ong tandem.
“Our workers identify with Yorme Isko. He is the quintessential worker, who because of hard work and dedication to his family, rose from extreme poverty to become a successful show business personality and public official,” Nicdao said.
Now, he aims for the highest public position in the land with nothing but the desire to uplift the welfare of his fellow Filipinos,” he continued.
The PTGWO is listed by the Department of Labor and Employment as one of the biggest federation of labor unions in the Philippines in terms of membership, with over a hundred thousand worker-members.
