MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Lannie is about to make landfall in Southern Leyte while moving over the Surigao Strait as of posting time, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Monday.
Pagasa’s tropical cyclone bulletin said Lannie was spotted over the coastal waters of Liloan, Southern Leyte at 7 a.m.
It packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph. It is moving west northwest at 15 kph.
Lannie may likely intensify into a tropical storm by Wednesday morning, Pagasa said.
It is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday morning.
