MANILA, Philippines — Former president and speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for representative of the 2nd district of Pampanga.

Her son, current Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo, said her mother filed her COC through a representative on October 1, Friday.

If Macapagal-Arroyo is elected, this will be her fourth term in the House of Representatives.

Macapagal-Arroyo served her first three terms as representative of the 2nd district of Pampanga from 2010 to 2019—with her first term right after her presidential stint.

In July 2018, then Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who was a close ally of no less than President Rodrigo Duterte, was booted out of speakership in favor of Macapagal-Arroyo right before the President delivered his third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio reportedly had a hand in Alvarez’ ouster.
