Senior citizen perishes in Lucena City blaze
LUCENA CITY – An 87-year-old woman died in an early morning fire in this city Monday, police said.
The Lucena City police said fire of still unknown origin struck the residence of the victim, Arcelia San Juan, in Barangay (village) Gulang-Gulang at around 1:40 a.m.
The victim’s granddaughter, Krizian Andrea Carandang, 31, rushed to the site to rescue the victim but the blaze prevented her from entering the house.
San Juan, who was living alone, was trapped and later found lifeless.
Carandang also sustained burn injuries on both arms and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.
