Magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocks Occidental Mindoro

5.3 Magnitude Earthquake in Occidental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro and nearby areas Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Aftershocks and damage to property are expected, Phivolcs warned.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 5:59 a.m., was traced 5 kilometers northeast of Sablayan town.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of three kilometers.

Phivolcs added that the earthquake was registered at Instrumental Intensity III in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro,
Instrumental Intensity II in Batangas City and Instrumental Intensity I in Mulanay and Mauban, Quezon as well as in Tagaytay City. (with a report from Madonna T. Virola)
