Sen. Sotto’s daughter seeks Congress post under party-list on agri sector

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Councilor Lala Sotto, who is also the daughter of Senate President and vice presidential aspirant Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, is seeking a congressional post through a party-list representing agricultural workers.
Sotto, together with former Rep. Nicanor Briones, filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) on Friday to represent Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines, Inc. (Agap), the first representatives to file under the party-list category.
Briones is the main representative of the Agap partylist, while Sotto is the second representative.
“Siguro panahon na para bigyan natin ng importansya ang mga magsasaka, mangingisda, sektor ng agrikultura,” Sotto said in a speech after her COC filing.

The councilor also said she vows to look into the implementation of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Code of the Philippines, which was authored by the Senate president.
“Gusto ko din pong sisiguraduhin na akma pa rin po ang bill na ito sa ating kasalukuyang sitwasyon,” she added.

Sotto said that the Agap party-list will also push for food security and food safety.
