Financial aid for drowning victims
FINANCIAL assistance will be extended to the family of the four teenagers who drowned in Toledo City last Sunday.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office will evaluate the extent of assistance to be given by the Capitol to the families.
Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, co-chairman of the Provincial Commission for the Welfare of Children (PCWC), said assistance will be released as soon they receive requests.
Provincial Board (PB) Member Alex Binghay of Cebu’s 3rd district will also meet with Toledo City officials to determine what assistance would be given.
Four teenagers of barangay Luray II, Toledo City, drowned 100 meters away from the shore after asking permission from their grandmother.
The victims are neighbors of Toledo City Vice Mayor Arlene Zambo.
They were recovered by fishermen, but they did not make it to the nearby district hospital.
Police identified the fatalities as 16-year-old Mae Ariate, her 14-year-old cousins Dindo and Joseph Blanco and their 14-year-old neighbor, Jason Asuzenas. There was no sign of foul play, the police said. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
Re-route scheme complaint
AROUND fifty passenger jeepney drivers and operators flocked to Lapu-Lapu City Hall to ask Mayor Paz Radaza to drop an experimental rerouting scheme that covered those plying the MI-03B and Cordova to MEPZ 1 routes.
During a dialogue, the drivers asked the mayor to shorten the re-routing period saying they have experienced lower income due to lower turnout of passengers.
They said their jeepneys can no longer pass barangay Poblacion where the jeepney terminal for Mandaue City is located.
Radaza said she will sit down with traffic officials to consider their plight.
She said the re-routing scheme had been aired in broadcast and published in newspapers prior to implementation.
Radaza said they have informed the Land Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB-7) about their re-routing scheme. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
