THE garbage “dumpsite” on the Lapu-Lapu City side of the the first Mactan-Mandaue bridge will be converted into a garden.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza told Cebu Daily News that barangay Pajo captain Leo Mercado told her that he would convert the area into a garden.
Mercado assured the mayor that he would act on the complaint of the barangay’s garbage trucks throwing garbage in an area under the bridge for two months.
Yesterday Radaza passed by the area and saw fertilizers covering the “dumpsite.”
During last Friday’s Solid Waste Management seminar of Lapu-Lapu City’s barangay captains, Radaza reminded them of their responsibility to properly dispose their garbage.
Meawhile, Vince Cinches, an environmentalist and Air Shed Governing Board member, is seeking an update on the air quality action plan of the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
He said he would also ask these cities if they already bought monitoring equipment for air pollution.
He said he would write the respective city governments of his request for updates and to remind them of their responsibility to preserve the environment. /Correspondent Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
