Libon, Albay mayor tests positive for COVID-19

LIGAO CITY — The mayor of Libon town in Albay province announced on social media Wednesday that he tested positive for COVID-19 according to a recent reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test he took.

Mayor Das Maronilla, who is also the president of the League of Municipalites in Albay, said he felt mild symptoms (cough and fever) associated with the viral disease last Sunday, September 26.

On a post on his Facebook page, Maronilla informed his constituents that prior to the positive swab result, he had the antigen test but it gave him a negative result even though he was already experiencing the mild symptoms.

“I’m staying at home and will finish the 14 day quarantine period,” Maronilla said in a text message.

He said despite his condition, transactions at the municipal hall will not be hampered.

He added that those he had come in contact with had negative results in the antigen test and are not experiencing symptoms but are still undergoing quarantine.

As of September 29, there are still 37 active COVID-19 infections in the town.

Since the pandemic broke out last year, Libon has recorded a total of 186 cases, of which 140 have recovered and 10 passed away.
