Two moms die in road accident
TWO single mothers were killed when they were hit by a pickup truck in barangay Cawayan, Dalaguete, south Cebu, yesterday afternoon.
Rosalisa Diolan, 47, and Cecilia Lisondra, 49, were brought to the Dr. Alcantara Memorial Hospital where they were declared dead by the doctors.
Initial police investigation revealed that a Mitsubishi Fuso canter truck with plate number GRM-570 driven by Rufo Geverola was heading to Dalaguete from Argao town.
Police said the cargo truck overtook a motorcycle in sitio Balatic.
At the time, an Isuzu D-Max pickup heading to Cebu City with plate number YGC-530 driven by 36-year-old Ariel Abunawan was approaching from the opposite lane.
Police said the cargo truck blocked the road when it tried to hit the brake to avoid colliding with the pickup.
Article continues after this advertisementThe pickup, on the other hand, swerved to the right lane to avoid the truck.
Article continues after this advertisementBut it hit Diolan and Lisondra who were standing on the roadside while talking with their friends outside a sari-sari store around 12:30 p.m.
Police said the mothers were engrossed talking and did not notice the approaching pickup.
Police said the front portion of the sari-sari store and a Ramstar motorcycle and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck parked near the store were hit and slightly damaged.
The drivers Geverola and Abunawan were detained at the Dalaguete police station pending the filing of charges.
