Adonis “TI Yamagata” Aguelo of Maasin City won a hard fought 10-round unanimous decision against Renan Branzuela of Bukidnon last Sunday in the main event of the “Binakbakay sa Barangay” card at the Barangay Basak gym in Lapu-Lapu City.
The win allowed Aguelo to successfully defend Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) featherweight title despite struggling in the early rounds against the elusive Branzuela.
The scorecards read: 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93.
Meanwhile, Romnick Magos won by unanimous decision against Roemart “TI Yamagata” Sentillas in a blood-tinged 10 rounder. An accidental head butt in the opening round inflicted a cut on Magos’ right eyebrow. This cost Sentillas a point and Magos attacked like a wounded animal. They traded hard shots non-stop in the subsequent rounds and had the packed crowd lustily cheering until the final bell.
Magos scored, 98-91, 97-92 and 97-92 on the judges scorecards.
In the other supporting bouts, Gerpaul “TI Yamagata” Valero won by third round TKO against Erwin Pulvera; Junior Salvador won by majority decision after six rounds against Japanese TI Yamagata Masashi. One judge had it a draw at 57-57 while two judges had it 58-56 for Salvador.
Rajah Renoel Pael beat Anthony Galigao by unanimous decision in another entertaining brawl (78-73, 77-74 and 76-75) while Ardie “TI Yamagata” Boyose knocked out Reymund Fermin in the third round of the opening pro bout.
Seen among the spectators were former world champions Katsunari Takayama of Japan and Rodel Mayol of Mandaue City.
The card which was promoted by Akira Sato of TI Yamagata Promotions also featured 10 amateur bouts.
