2 NGCP crew, 7 soldiers injured in blast in Lanao del Sur town

flood aidILIGAN CITY—Two linemen of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and seven Army soldiers were injured when a landmine blasted in Buadiposo-Buntong town, Lanao del Sur on Tuesday morning (Sept. 28).

The blast happened at around 7 a.m. in a forested area of the town where the NGCP linemen, escorted by the soldiers, were inspecting transmission lines that tripped last week.

After the blast, those injured were rushed to a hospital in Marawi City for treatment.

Brigadier General Jose Maria Cuerpo II, commander of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade, said they are still investigating the incident to determine the armed group responsible for the attack.

Cuerpo said the Army troopers from the 55th Infantry Battalion and the two NGCP linemen were now safe from harm.

In a statement, the NGCP asked local leaders to help identify the perpetrators of the attack.

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto-Adiong Jr. expressed alarm over the incident, instructing the municipal government to assist the authorities in the investigation.

Adiong also appealed to the local residents to help uncover those who were responsible for the incident.
