4 villages locked down in Occidental Mindoro town due to COVID-19 surge
CITY OF CALAPAN—The villages of Bonbon, Guitna, Kanluran, and Agkawayan in Looc town, Occidental Mindoro province were placed on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until Oct. 4 due rising number of COVID-19 cases.
The villages were considered critical zones since Sept. 22, said Wilhelm Suyko, director of the Regional Interagency Task Force.
From Sept. 18 to 27, the town reported 29 active COVID-19 cases through the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test.
Fifty-seven others tested positive in the rapid antigen test, according to the municipality’s COVID-19 updates.
A total of 453 individuals underwent the rapid antigen test, of which 91 turned out positive, which is a positivity rate of 20.08 percent. Contact tracing is ongoing.
“The local government’s isolation facilities are not enough, so we helped accommodate about 20 people in the parish,” said Fr. Anthony Tria, priest of Saint Raphael the Archangel church in a text message Tuesday.
