MANILA, Philippines — An additional 93 COVID-19 patients have died due to complications of the disease, bringing the death toll to 37,494, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.
Monday’s toll was lower than those reported last week because for three consecutive days the DOH was not able to record deaths due to a technical glitch.
According to the DOH, the backlog in its death count from Sept. 24 to 26 will be reported in separate advisories.
So far, the Philippines has recorded 4,051 deaths since the start of September in its worst COVID-19 surge. This means that, on average, deaths, excluding the missing figures due to the backlog, were at 150 per day.
Despite the missing figures, Monday’s death toll was still higher compared to the average deaths recorded in the last few months. August had an average daily death toll of 114, July had 97, and June had 106.
The current total toll, however, only accounts for only 1.50% of the total 2,509,177 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the DOH. It accounts for 0.79% of the total deaths worldwide.
According to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, worldwide deaths currently stand at 4,750,209.
Meanwhile, the Philippines has a total of 158,169 active COVID-19 infections, while recoveries are at 2,313,412.
