MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain are expected to prevail over Palawan, Western Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula on Monday while the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“Except for the Palawan area, generally, maaliwalas ang panahon sa nakararaming bahagi ng Luzon, maliban na lang sa ilang isolated rainshowers na dulot ng localized thunderstorms (fair weather in most parts of Luzon, except for a few isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms),” said Pagasa senior weather specialist Chris Perez.
Although cloudy and rainy weather conditions are also forecasted in Western Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula, the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have hotter and more humid weather with chances of rain caused by localized thunderstorms especially around afternoon and evening, said Perez.
Meanwhile, Perez said a typhoon nearing the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is currently being monitored and was last spotted 1600 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan.
It has maximum wind speeds of 205 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 250 kph.
“Inaasahan natin na ngayong darating na week ay papasok ito ng ating PAR, subalit bukas wala pa rin itong direktang epekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” said Perez.
(We expect it to enter PAR within this week, but it will still not have a direct impact on any part of our country on Monday.)
The storm is also not expected to hit the country’s landmass, as it is forecasted to move north northwest.
The forecast temperature range in key cities/areas according to Pagasa are:
