MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police, has ordered a thorough investigation on the death of a cadet at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), particularly the possible violation of the antihazing law.

PNPA director Maj. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento reported that Cadet 3rd Class George Karl Magsayo, 21, from Pagadian City, was “bogged down” inside a room in their dormitory at Camp Castañeda in Silang, Cavite province, on Sept. 23.

Investigation showed that Magsayo and a companion went to the room of the suspect, identified as Cadet 2nd Class Steven Ceasar Maingat, 23, around 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 23. Maingat then punched Magsayo five times in the stomach.

Magsayo was rushed to Qualimed Hospital in Santa Rosa, Laguna, but was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:43 a.m. Maingat was detained at the Silang municipal police station.
