SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—Officials of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and their partner agencies will launch “bike tourism” inside this free port on Monday (Sept. 27) as part of the 2021 World Tourism Day celebration.

The virtual event, dubbed “Subic Bay: Biking into a sustainable future,” will gather cycling enthusiasts in the free port and nearby communities, according to an advisory of the SBMA on Friday, Sept. 24.

Recently, the SBMA and local cycling groups agreed to enforce self-regulation and promote responsible biking here following the recent accident involving participants of an illegal bike race.

Volunteer marshals were deployed to “police the ranks of local cyclists” and “enforce discipline” among their members while biking in the free port.

Representatives from the Department of Tourism and Triathlon Association of the Philippines will spearhead the discussions, such as road safety and cycling as a sport, on Monday.

The SBMA will also provide an update on the bike lanes development project in the free port.
