MANILA, Philippines — A PDP-Laban faction is not worried that its prospective standard-bearer Senator Bong Go and vice presidential bet President Rodrigo Duterte might face Mayor Isko Moreno and Dr. Willie Ong in the 2022 elections.

Melvin Matibag, the Secretary General of the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, said on Thursday the political group is looking at its own strengths and weaknesses to assess the winnability of the Go-Duterte tandem.

“Hindi naman kasi iniisip ‘yung weakness or strength ng aming mga pwedeng mga kalaban sa 2022. We are looking at our own strength and weaknesses,” he said in an online media forum.

(We are not looking at the strengths and weaknesses of our potential rivals in the 2022 elections.)

“Kung ano ‘yung strengths namin, we will harness it at kung ano ‘yung weaknesses we will address it so that we can assure na manalo ang PDP-Laban sa 2022,” he added.

(Whatever our strengths, we will harness it and whatever our weaknesses, we will address it so that we can assure that the PDP-Laban will win in 2022.)

Matibag noted President Duterte’s continued popularity among the public even less than a year left in his term. He also pointed out that Duterte has not yet lost any election since he entered politics.

Moreno on Wednesday formally announced his decision to join the presidential race in the 2022 elections.

His running mate is online personality and physician Dr. Willie Ong.

Meanwhile, President Duterte has formally accepted the PDP-Laban’s nomination to be its vice-presidential candidate in the 2022 polls.

Matibag said Duterte signed the PDP-Laban’s certificate of nomination and acceptance on Wednesday night in Davao City.
Senator Go has yet to accept the PDP-Laban’s nomination to be its presidential bet in the upcoming polls.
