MANILA, Philippines — House Deputy Speaker and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto is supporting the 2022 presidential bid of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

Santos-Recto, an award-winning veteran actress before she entered politics, said she saw Moreno’s “focus and sincerity as a leader” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We will support him. Mayor Isko is an inspiring and God-loving leader and we can see his drive to serve the Filipino people with a heart, hope, and action,” Santos-Recto said in a text message.

“With what he did to Manila, especially during this pandemic, we saw his focus and sincerity as a leader. May the blessings of God be with him always,” she added.

Moreno on Wednesday formally announced his decision to join the presidential race in the 2022 elections.

“Nakilala niyo po akong tapat sa pamamahala at totoong pananalita (You’ve known me for my honest leadership and straight talk.) Hard work and straight talk. Whether it is about city projects or personal beliefs, I convey it with candor and I do not play coy,” Moreno said.

Like Santos-Recto, Moreno was also in the entertainment industry before entering politics.
