MANILA, Philippines — A messenger who was bragging about his new gun is now on the run after shooting his drinking buddy while testing the firearm Sunday night in Quezon City.
The victim, Robert Hernandez, 42, was injured in the left arm and right leg by gunfire from the new pistol of suspect William Miranda, 50.
The shooting happened in front of the victim’s house on Boni Serrano Ave. in Barangay Bagong Lipunan, just nearby the Topman Security Agency where the suspect has been working as a messenger.
Case investigator, PO3 Harold Polistico, said the two friends were having a drink around 7 p.m. Sunday when Miranda left for a while to go to the security agency to get his newly bought .45 caliber pistol.
Intending to show it off to his friend, Miranda attempted to clear the chamber of the gun of any bullets when the pistol went off and hit Hernandez.
The bullet apparently hit Hernandez’s shoulder then ricocheted and hit his right leg.
Hernandez was rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center for treatment while his friend fled.
