MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Tuesday backed the proposal to raise the 2022 budget of Vice President Leni Robredo to P1 billion, as senators praised the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for its very efficient use of funds and its collaborative projects with the private sector during the pandemic.

“If Ma’am Leni needs P1 billion, let’s give it to her. All she does is help, and she has been going out in our country helping our people,” Zubiri said during a hearing of a finance subcommittee on the OVP’s P715-million proposed budget.

The OVP’s budget for the current year amounts to P908.9 billion. Camarines Sur Rep. Gabriel Bordado and ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro have proposed that the OVP’s funding be at least P1 billion.
