2 wounded in Basilan armed attack

ZAMBOANGA CITYz—Unidentified armed men attacked a fisherman’s house in Isabela City, Basilan on Tuesday (Sept. 21), wounding two persons.

Colonel Julpikar Sittin, Isabela City police director, identified the two victims as Huliman Abdulla Jakaria, 39, and his two-year-old neighbor, Aljab Hullasahi.

According to the police, Jakaria was resting at his house along the shores of Tampalan village when armed men aboard a motorized boat sailed by and sprayed him with bullets.

Sittin said that a stray bullet hit the toddler who was then sleeping on a hammock near Jakaria’s house.

The incident took place around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Both victims were brought to the Basilan General Hospital for treatment.

Although the attackers’ identities are still unknown, Sittin said a personal grudge could be the motive behind the shooting.
