COVID-19 deaths top 37,000 with 140 more fatalities

MANILA, Philippines — Another 140 COVID-19 patients in the country have died, according to the Department of Health, raising the death count to 37,074 as of Tuesday.

The total deaths represent 1.54 percent of the 2.4 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, according to DOH.

In a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte on September 15, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the daily average of actual deaths due to coronavirus for the first two weeks of September was at 83.

The DOH earlier said it logged 114 deaths per day in August, higher than the 97 average fatalities in July and 106 in June.

The country now has 171,142 active COVID-19 cases, of which 1.4 percent are severe and 0.6 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death.

Majority or 92.4 percent of the active cases are mild, 2.8 percent are asymptomatic, and 2.69 percent are moderate cases.
