Senate to rule on SC resolution limiting access to court documents

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate is expected to issue its stand Monday on the Supreme Court resolution allowing limited access to certain documents and barring justices, judges and court employees from testifying in the impeachment proceedings, citing judicial privilege.

The Senate, acting as an impeachment court, will also determine whether to cite defense lawyers in contempt for claiming that Malacanang was trying to bribe the senator-Judges.

The senator-judges are expected to grill Quezon City Representative Jorge “Bolet” Banal for approaching a bank manager on January 31 to verify documents related to Corona’s accounts which were delivered to his house.

The trial against impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona is on its 20th day.
