5 nabbed for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition in Quezon
LUCENA CITY – Five individuals were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in Atimonan town in Quezon province Sunday afternoon, police said Sunday.
Atimonan police, in a report, said the suspects – Edgar Tortor,48; Alvin Desalisa,57; Bonifacio Layan,49; Alberto Oblifias,50; and Augustus Suarez,43 – while engaged in a drinking session were reportedly firing their guns indiscriminately, causing fear among residents in Barangay (village) Angeles around 4:30 p.m.
Authorities seized one caliber .45 pistol, two caliber .38 revolvers, and assorted bullets and magazines.
The suspects failed to produce the necessary documents for the firearms.
Police also found several empty shells from fired bullets in the area.
The suspects were detained in the Atimonan police jail while charges of alarm and public scandal and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition under Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition were being prepared.
